WHY I JOINED PDP - OBI

Anambra State former governor , Peter Obi, who recently decamped from APGA to join PDP has opened up on why he took his action. Obi who speaking with journalists during an interactive section with Igbo group in Lagos State said his defection was not to because there was something wrong with APGA, but that he joined the PDP in order to support President Jonathan's re-election bid. According to the former governor, "There is nothing wrong with APGA and my joining the PDP has nothing to do with APGA. I enjoy cordial relationship with Chief Willie Obiano and the government is doing well. I will continue to support him in building a better Anambra State for the good of the children of the state.”
When journalists probed further on why he left the party he had invested much into, Obi had this to say: “Mr. President is doing very well. He has a lot of policies in place that will transform the country if re-elected. We shall support him fully for the benefit of the country”

Speaking also, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa
Metuh said that in the history of the party, such a high-powered delegation had never been sent to convince people to join the party. He said the party did it in the case off Obi because of his impressive performance while in office and because of the value he would add to the party.

Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko recently decamped to the PDP, saying it was not because of Ondo State or the Labour Party, but that his defection was to afford him the opportunity to support the president more. Obi, who also cited the same reason, said he had discussed the matter with Mimiko on several occasions.

Meanwhile the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh said that Obi's recent defection from the party was of no loss to them.
Chief Umeh made this disclosure while speaking to journalist at a rally in Asaba, on Wednesday, where Dr. Anthony Azuya, a House of Representatives candidate led defectors from the All Progressives Congress and the Labour Party to APGA, Umeh said many people
had joined the party since the defection of Obi.

The APGA National Chairman said: “You can see that as Obi left our party
yesterday (Tuesday), about 7,000 people have joined the party today (Wednesday). It is like a church. As some people are leaving many more
people are coming in. “If there is any problem (with the party),
people will not be trooping to APGA. We are happy that Obi left”
Chief Umeh however, said APGA was determined in its support for the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan in
next year’s election. “Apart from the presidential election, APGA
will field candidates in all the elections in 2015,” he said.
